Families considering IDS will usually gather information through many avenues, which is just how IDS students do their investigative learning as well. We encourage you to explore the opportunities below and experience many or all of these events!
Open Houses
On several weekends and weekdays throughout the year, our school is open for families to tour the classrooms and campus. Faculty are available to talk about the program and answer your questions. IDS parents and students conduct the tours and will share their experiences with you.
We welcome you to join us for any or all of these upcoming open house events:
Saturday, February 4 from 9:00-1:00PM ~ DISCOVER IDS!
This event will offer the opportunity for families with interest in Beginners (age 3) through Grade 8 to "Discover IDS!" Lunch will be provided.
Parents and students will provide tours of our campus with an opportunity to meet our teachers. Guests will have the opportunity to observe a Lower School Design Thinking Challenge in progress.
There will also be a special Middle School presentation which offers an opportunity for current and prospective parents to hear Doug Lyons', Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools, presentation entitled; "The Wonder Years Can Last Forever; The Impact of Early School Environment on the Development of the Life-Long Learner, " followed by a conversation with the IDS Middle School Deans and concluding with a brief presentation about "Life after IDS" by IDS Secondary School Advisor, Liz Warner.
Current and prospective Middle School students will sample a choice of three middle school classes and activities such as creative writing, math or theater games, science activities, and opportunities to explore Design Thinking or the Debate Club.
Tuesday, February 7 from 3:30-5:30PM ~ "Stop in and Step
Up" with current IDS parents to meet next year's teachers and learn
about their exciting curriculum and projects for the year ahead.
Friday, February 17 at 8:15AM for a "Play Date" ~ Enjoy the opportunity to see IDS in action, meet our Head of School, John Barrengos and stay, if you can, for the Second Grade Play at 9:30, "Grandma's Words, Native America Legends."
* Year round we welcome you to join the IDS Community for our weekly Wednesday All School Meeting at 8:15AM, followed by a tour of the school. Please call the admission office or email us at: ids@independentdayschool.org to RSVP.
Parent Gatherings
Held in the evening at the homes of IDS parents, these events are an opportunity to learn about IDS in a more social setting. IDS administrators and parents will share their personal experiences and answer your questions while you enjoy light refreshments and meet other parents who are exploring IDS.
Individually Scheduled ToursWe encourage all of our families to join us on campus during the school day. Seeing the students and faculty engage in the learning process really is the best way to discover our school. Please contact Robin Nichols or Chris Wilkes to schedule an alternate tour.
