Applying to IDS

Admission Goals
The goal of the admission process is to determine whether our curriculum and programs will meet a child's needs and the family's expectations. To this end, we make every effort to inform parents and applicants about the school. Similarly, the school makes every effort to come to know the applicants and their families.

Admission Process
After a family submits an application, an admission visit is scheduled. This offers prospective students the opportunity to join in the classroom of their present grade, interact with children of a similar age and participate in interviewing, testing, and information-gathering exercises. The Admission Committee reviews past and present school records, speaks with student references listed on the application and requires a recommendation from the student's current teacher.  For applicants to our Early Childhood, Kindergarten and First Grade, please use this form for your child's teacher recommendation.  For applicants to Grades 2-7 please use this form

We recommend that these forms are given to the current teacher along with an envelope stamped and addressed to The Independent Day School.  To ensure confidentiality these forms must come directly from the teachers to IDS.  You will also need to provide your child's current school with an official records release form, which you can download here. This allows the current school the ability to send us any grades, reports & testing.

Our school serves children with normal development and enthusiasm, who have average to above average intelligence. Programs are designed to be enriching and challenging as well as supportive.

You can apply online, or if you would like to download and print our application, click here.

We are also happy to mail you an application.

Once application is made, we will contact you to schedule an admission visit.  Please complete the Visitor's Information Form and bring it with you at the time of your child's visit.

The Independent Day School is a coeducational school. The school does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, religion, or national or ethnic origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected class in the administration of its admissions, educational programs, and activities, or access to financial aid.
