Social and Emotional Learning: An Education of the Whole Person

An IDS education is more than challenging academics. Cultivating character and integrity is fundamental to our program as we prepare our students for leadership positions in the dynamic future ahead of them. Our social-emotional curriculum encourages responsibility and develops positive social skills by focusing on empathy and communication, cooperation and emotional management. Students develop in independence and grow in their ability to make the right decisions. This social-emotional program starts in the earliest grades with an embedded program called Responsive Program and culminates with Second Step in the middle school. Is there an IDS-type of kid? Absolutely! They'll be the ones holding the door or looking after their younger sibling. They are all-around nice kids who make a difference in their small world every day and will eventually make a positive impact in the larger world one day, too.
