The IDS Merit and Citizenship Scholarship Program*

Applications for the IDS Merit and Citizenship Scholarship must be submitted in conjunction with your admission application.

The Independent Day School offers merit scholarships of $5,000 per year, per student for new motivated, talented students applying to grades 5-8 who strive to do their best academically and actively participate in their community.  The scholarship is renewable through to graduation assuming that the scholar continues to thrive in the IDS environment by fulfilling academic and social expectations.

IDS Merit Scholarship Program recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: good citizenship, outstanding pattern of academic achievement, strong testing (OLSAT) and evidence of community involvement.   Any prospective family is eligible and encouraged to apply.

The Independent Day School Founders’ Scholarship*
On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, IDS initiated a special scholarship program to honor the historic relationship among the communities of Wesleyan University and Choate Rosemary Hall. The Independent Day School Founders’ Scholarship makes attending IDS more affordable for a limited number of Wesleyan and Choate faculty and staff families. Families whose child/ren receive a Founders’ Scholarship will receive a $5,000 award per year.   The scholarship is renewable through to graduation assuming that the scholar continues to thrive in the IDS environment by fulfilling academic and social expectations.

The IDS Founders’ Scholarship recipients will be selected based on the following criteria: good citizenship, outstanding pattern of academic achievement, strong testing (OLSAT), evidence of community involvement and an affiliation to Wesleyan or Choate.

The Dr. Edward and Elizabeth Wallace Scholarship Fund*

This scholarship, made possible by the late Dr. Edward and Elizabeth Wallace, is awarded to one sixth grader for his/her three-year middle school tenure. This scholarship of $5,000 per year is competitive and available to students who demonstrate a passion for learning and discovery and for whose families demonstrate financial need.   The scholarship is renewable through to graduation assuming that the scholar continues to thrive in the IDS environment by fulfilling academic and social expectations.

Commitment to learning and habits that show engagement with school and community are encouraged for all students at IDS.   A scholarship application will be evaluated with these values in mind.  Any current or prospective is eligible and encouraged to apply.

*IDS scholarship recipients can also be considered for need-based financial assistance in addition to the merit funding.  If need-based financial assistance is requested, the applicant’s family must complete the School and Student Services (SSS) application by the National Association of Independent Schools, which will aid the Financial Assistance Committee in understanding the family’s situation.  Because this scholarship is based on merit, the amount of the merit scholarship will not change in the event that need-based financial assistance is also awarded.
