Type of school

The Independent Day School is a co-educational private pre-school, elementary and middle school. The school is located on rolling hills in the countryside of Middlefield. Since its founding in 1961, families of diverse racial, religious and social backgrounds have come from 30 surrounding communities, including Cromwell, Durham, Glastonbury, Guilford, Haddam, Middlefield, Middletown, Portland, and Wallingford, to experience a challenging curriculum in a warm, supportive environment.

Campus is open 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Morning care is available free of charge daily from 7:30-8:00.

Beginners attend 3 or 5 days a week, 8:10-12:00
Pre-K meets 5 days a week, 8:10-12:00
K-2nd grades meet 5 days a week, 8:10-3:10
3rd-5th grades meet 5 days a week, 8:10-3:20    
6th-8th grades meet 5 days a week, 8:00-3:20

After school care available daily for all children until 6:00 p.m.

IDS graduates are welcomed at outstanding secondary schools including independent schools, parochial schools, and public schools. In the past three years, 34% of our students have attended independent boarding secondary schools, 24% have attended independent day secondary schools, 28% have attended parochial schools, and 13% have attended public schools.
