The Southern Region Music Festival is a two-day festival that takes place every March. Middle school students are selected from over forty towns and cities in the Southern Region of Connecticut to participate in the Southern Region Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. Students are selected by audition and auditions are typically held on the first Saturday in December. Students prepare a piece of music and scales to play or sing in front of a judge. Some auditions also require sight-reading, playing or singing a piece of music that the student has never seen before. Audition material and information for this year’s festival can be found HERE.
Morning Meeting is one component of Responsive Classroom, a social-emotional and academic approach to teaching and learning used at IDS. During the first minutes of school, as students anticipate this leadoff activity, enthusiastic grins and chuckles replace sleepy-eyed countenances. Children in each Lower School and Early Childhood classroom assemble on carpets, usually in a circle, and pause to welcome one another.
Join us on Monday, November 11th from 9-11 AM for Open House. Parents and children age 3 through grade 8 are invited to tour our campus, visit in classrooms, meet IDS parents, and meet our administrative team.
