IDS Continues Tradition of Helping Community

As part of the Independent Day School’s annual Autumn Games, the IDS community participated in a food drive which benefited the Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown. Over the course of the week, hundreds of non-perishable items were generously donated by students and parents in the spirit of this giving season, and of course, to earn a few points for their designated color teams!

In addition to collecting food items, coins were also donated towards this cause, and the final totals included 1,027 donated food items and $494.16 in coins collected. Wow!

While the Autumn Games were modified this year for safe social-distancing standards (and for rainy weather!), it still presented a fun opportunity for students to showcase their school spirit and to have fun in varying educational activities. After all the food, coins, and points were tallied, it was the Green Team which came away as the 2020 Autumn Game Champions!

“As I spent nearly an hour on Tuesday depositing coins from the Autumn Games coin stacking challenge into the counting machine at our bank, I thought about what an amazing community IDS is,” reflected Director of Finance and Operations, Maggie Dolan. “At a time when our students’ daily experiences are so different from what they are used to, they participated with enthusiasm in a modified Autumn Games while contributing to their larger community and helping those in need.  In the face of adversity, we at IDS are fearless AND compassionate!”

Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts in this fun, and important, initiative and thank you to all of the members of our great school community for making this such a successful event!
