Invention Convention 2021

The Independent Day School continued with its annual fifth-grade “Invention Convention” competition this past week, culminating in presentations to judges after weeks of imaginative thought process and hard work.

The Invention Convention offers students a chance to engage with the invention and design process, beginning with identifying a problem they hope to solve, and then moving through the design and building phase. This ultimately concludes in the presentation of their inventions to our IDS judges, Ms. Reynolds, and Mrs. Archer. 

While everyone did a fantastic job, two students were selected to represent IDS at the statewide convention. This year, our representatives will be Lexi Booth and Lyla Parkerson! Lexi created a handy device she named "Pooch Pockets" which are pouches that clip on a dog harness to carry items one might need on a hike or walk with their dog. Lyla's invention is a fabric shelf that solves the problem of too many stuffed animals on the floor by creating an attractive storage option
