The Independent Day School Announces New Head of School

The Independent Day School is thrilled to announce Dr. Rochelle Reodica has been appointed IDS’ next Head of School effective July 1, 2022.

“After conducting an extensive national search, we believe Rochelle’s independent school leadership experience, educational philosophy, and shared values are an exceptional fit for IDS. We look forward to welcoming Rochelle and her family to IDS and partnering with her to build upon the notable work of our retiring Head of School, Dr. Marijke Kehrhahn,” a statement from the school said.

A native of the northeast US, Rochelle comes to IDS from Marin Horizon School, a preschool-grade 8 independent school in Mill Valley, California, where she was Director of the Upper School. In this role, she was part of the school’s leadership team and was responsible for all facets of the Grades 4-8 program. Prior to this, she held leadership positions at San Francisco University High School, an independent high school in San Francisco, and The Ethical Culture Fieldston School, an independent preschool-
grade 12 school in New York City.

Rochelle earned her BS from Ithaca College, her MEd in special education and MSW in social work from Boston University, and EdD in educational leadership from San Francisco State University. Rochelle’s doctoral research focused on the lived experience of multiracial students in independent schools.

Rochelle is an engaging and dynamic leader with strong communication skills who was described by members of the IDS community as “warm,” “lovely,” and “authentic.” She was recognized by our community members as bringing great ideas and energy, connecting well with everyone in the community, having a strong track record of teacher support, and bringing expertise in the areas of diversity, equity, and justice.

“I am delighted and honored to serve as the next Head of School here at IDS,” Dr. Rochelle Reodica released in a statement. “When I first perused the school’s website, I immediately noticed the motto, “Fearless Learning”. I was intrigued and kept reading. I came to learn that IDS students are “free to explore ideas without constraint, engage their curiosity without hesitation, and fully encouraged to take risks, try new things, and make new connections.” So much of this resonated with who I am as a learner and as a leader; I knew this was the kind of school I wanted to lead!”

“My sincere thanks to the search committee, led by Matt Jacobson, for crafting an interview process that was inclusive, thoughtful, and engaging. My family and I were welcomed with open arms and we felt taken care of the entire time. And thank you to Dr. Marijke Kehrhahn for providing a strong foundation upon which I can build in the coming years. I am thrilled to lead the IDS community into its next chapter with purpose, fearlessness, and optimism. We have a bright and thriving future ahead!”
