IDS Field Day Extra Special for Many Reasons

The Independent Day School (IDS) hosted its annual Field Day last Wednesday, May 18, 2022.  While there have been various modifications of the outdoor competition during the Covid-19 Pandemic, this was the first time all of the students were able to fully come together for the friendly competition since the fall of 2019.

The Field Day festivities actually began a few weeks earlier with half of the student body designated to either the Blue Team or Green Team. Students were able to earn points for their team through a fundraising initiative sponsored by the school, with this year’s donations going to two Ukrainian refugees, two brothers who are now enrolled at Putnam Science Academy (PSA) in Putnam, CT.  In total, the Blue and Green Teams raised a grand total $1,600.  At our weekly All School Meeting, members of the IDS community presented special spirit gifts to the two students who were accompanied by Sarah Healey, the Head of School at PSA.

After All School Meeting ended, all students fueled up by enjoying a wonderful cookout lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs. Just before 1:00 pm, the Field Day activities began in earnest with students at all levels competing in ten different games via a rotation, half of them water based which was well received on a hot spring day.

Once all the games were completed and all the points were tallied, the Blue Team was deemed the winners of 2022 IDS Field Day! As a reward for taking home the title, students on the Blue Team were able to participate in dousing their teachers in a “Splash Tank” to end a fun-filled afternoon!
