It's hard to capture the spirit and vitality of The Independent Day School on just a website, but that won't stop us from trying to bottle the magic that happens on our campus every day. Hopefully, as you tour the site you'll want to say, "Let me take a closer look" and know that this place is the right one for your child as it has been for many families since 1961.
We have designed the web site to make it easy to navigate the three distinct transformative journeys through our school: the Early Childhood program (Beginners - Grade 2), the Lower School (Grade 3 - Grade 5) and the Middle School (Grade 6 - Grade 8). At each level, the program adapts to the child's developmental needs while instilling in him or her the confidence to push beyond what they think they are capable of. Teachers here value a student's boldness, curiosity and sense of wonderment. IDS is a place of possibility.
Those possibilities present themselves in our sections Inside the Classroom and Outside the Classroom. Inside the Classroom dives into the curriculum presented at each grade level. But, that's only a small part of the story. A teacher's lost pet becomes a writing prompt for a second grade class. A student interest in pyramids becomes a math lesson in geometry. You never know where inspiration can lead in developing a lesson. So where there is a formal curriculum in place, there is the latitude and creativity to make learning a lot more fruitful and fun.
Our learning is not confined to just the classroom as our Outside the Classroom section exhibits. Our active community has a range of interests, and their thirst for exploration is infectious whether in athletics, performing or fine arts. But, it's not an either/or proposition. Chances are you'll find the same student playing the cello as well as shooting a killer corner kick. IDS opens plenty of doors to new experiences and interests. Additionally, since the school arose out of a sense of service to the community, we continue that tradition by strongly promoting community service and citizenship for our students.
We hope you'll visit and become part of this amazing, close-knit community. IDS truly never leaves a person. So stick around and stay for awhile.
