Secondary School Placement

Helping Students Find Their Path

Whether students arrive at IDS as young Early Childhood students or join us in Upper School, their success here is only the beginning of a lifelong learning journey. Our thoughtful, intentional, and structured approach to working with students and families on “what comes next?” is focused on finding the right match for each student: when the right student finds the right school at the right time, the potential for growth is truly remarkable.

The IDS Approach

Launching Lifelong Success

The formal process begins as early as 6th grade for families who want to plan ahead, and then takes on increased momentum in the late autumn of 7th grade. Starting with the annual “Secondary School Fair” in October and continuing through both group seminars and individual meetings, our Secondary School Advisor works with every family to find a high school that will continue to foster and challenge our students to become the best they can be as they pursue their passions and talents. The high schools IDS students attend are as varied as our students – we concentrate on “the best-match” and are very lucky to be in an area with abundant options.

From local public and parochial schools to magnet programs and independent day and boarding schools, IDS students are fortunate to have a variety of choices. It can be a complex and stressful process, but our approach in helping families navigate the applications, interviews, essays, and tours is comprehensive. As a result, IDS students attend the right high school that allows them to continue to be Fearless Learners.
