About IDS

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at IDS

As reflected in our school’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement, The Independent Day School community – students, faculty, administrators, families, trustees, and alumni – aspires to be an active, conscious community that works together to continue to learn, grow, and exemplify our ideals for a world in which everyone belongs.  To this end, we have stepped forward with more coordinated and extensive activities to advance equity and inclusivity. We are pleased to share our efforts as well as provide resources to the IDS community.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at IDS

The Independent Day School is committed to discovering, cultivating, and celebrating diversity in its many forms throughout our community and seeks to foster an atmosphere of personal and cross-cultural curiosity.

As an academic institution, IDS embraces the diversity of learning styles.

We nurture exploration and understanding of identity through culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, political ideology, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.

In this spirit, IDS is devoted to actively nurturing inclusive environments in which students will develop an appreciation for the rich diversity of this school and mindsets/skill sets preparing them for global citizenship and intercultural communication.

We dedicate ourselves to being a community in which all members are encouraged to express themselves, are given respect, and can clearly see their identities reflected and affirmed in the curriculum, co-curriculum and general school environment.
