IDS Continues Thanksgiving Season Tradition

The Independent Day School continued its annual Thanksgiving season tradition of collecting and delivering non-perishable food items to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown. After successfully collecting all of the food items as part of IDS’ “Fall Games” in October, the donations were then all accounted for and delivered to the food pantry on Wednesday, November 17.

“Each year for Autumn Games, the blue team and the green team compete to see which team can bring the most items for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry,” explained Head of School Marijke Kehrhahn.

“The teams include students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 who bring bags of food throughout the week before Autumn Games, spurred on by announcements about which team is in the lead. The brainchild of former IDS Athletics Director and Middletown resident Janet Sisson, IDS' spirited food drive is not only a great opportunity for our school community to show our care for the larger Middletown community but also a chance for students to learn about the problem of food insecurity in our region.”

Hundreds of pounds of items were generously donated from the school’s community (it filled the entire bus!) and IDS thanks everyone for their incredible participation and support!
